Stokes ruled out of home Test

Durham all-rounder Ben Stokes has been ruled out of the Second Investec Test match against Sri Lanka at Emirates Riverside.

The 24-year-old sustained a knee injury in the First Investec Test victory at Headingley over the weekend.

Following a scan yesterday and review by the medical team, it was advised that Stokes would be unavailable for the match in Durham and he will be reviewed by a consultant tomorrow.

Stokes was set to earn his 25th cap against the Sri Lankans and his first on home turf at Durham.

Warwickshire all-rounder Chris Woakes, currently playing against Durham in a Specsavers County Championship match at Edgbaston, replaces Stokes in the squad after today’s second play.

England will assume an unassailable 2-0 lead with victory in the North East after James Anderson’s ten-wicket haul helped them to an innings and 88 run victory.

England squad: Alastair Cook (c), Moeen Ali, James Anderson, Jonny Bairstow, Jake Ball, Stuart Broad, Nick Compton, Steven Finn, Alex Hales, Joe Root, James Vince, Chris Woakes
