Somerset v Durham – Match Preview

Durham travel to the Westcountry for a Royal London One-Day Cup clash with Somerset on Wednesday (10.30am start)

After rain ruined any chance of play against Worcestershire Rapids on Saturday, Mark Stoneman’s men will make the trip to Taunton with a total of three points from two games in Group A.

Scotland star Calum MacLeod makes a welcome return to the squad after helping his country secure their place in next year’s ICC World Twenty20, whilst John Hastings, who penned a new contract with the club earlier this week, is also included in a 14-man travelling party.

Opponents Somerset lost their opening match against Derbyshire after bad weather reduced the contest to 14 overs per side. Wayne Madsen hit 45 in a total of 134-7, before more rain gave the hosts a revised target of 104 to win from 10 overs, with Somerset bowled out 29 runs short.

Before the one-day cup got underway, director of cricket Matthew Maynard allowed Alfonso Thomas to join Sussex on loan for the duration of the competition.

We will bring supporters regular updates from the game on our Twitter page and a match report will be published on www.durhamccc.co.uk.

Stat attack
Durham have lost five of their last six away games against Somerset

Durham have won six of their last eight tosses at Taunton

Paul Collingwood’s 132 against Northamptonshire was his highest score in all List A cricket, in his 380th innings.

A word from the away camp
John Hastings: “It is a tough place to go, it’s a lightning-fast outfield, small ground and they’ve got some really good players who play well to it. So we’re going to have to be at the top of our game that’s for sure, but I think we’re getting close to that.

“I don’t think we quite got it right last year and hopefully that experience, we can look back on that game and go through the vision and see where we went wrong with the ball. 315 should win you games more often than not so hopefully we can go down there and learn from what we did last year and put in a good performance.”
