Skipper Previews Nottinghamshire Clash

Durham squad v Nottinghamshire: Stoneman, Mustard, Borthwick, Clark, Richardson, Collingwood, Muchall, MacLeod, Pringle, Jennings, Hastings, Onions, Rushworth.

Start time: 2pm Trent Bridge, Live on Sky Sports Television.

Durham one-day skipper Mark Stoneman insists his side are hitting form at just the right moment ahead of their Royal London One-Day Cup quarter-final at Trent Bridge.

Nottinghamshire won their group at a canter, while Durham just about squeezed into the knock-out stages following back-to-back group match victories over Leicestershire and Derbyshire.

By a strange symmetry Stoneman’s team qualified for last season’s knock-out stages with nine points, having won their last two group matches – exactly the same as this year.

Those wins at Grace Road and Emirates Durham ICG have convinced Stoneman that his team are heading to Trent Bridge in decent nick.

Stoneman told www.durhamccc.co.uk “We batted and bowled well at Leicester and at Durham against Derbyshire the bowlers restricted them just when they needed to. We probably didn’t get as many runs as we would have liked but the bowlers did a fantastic job.

“In parts we have played very well and when we go to Notts we have to make sure all the parts of the team work in unison. If we do that we have got a very good chance as we have some high class players in our squad.”

Durham beat their midlands rivals twice in the Royal London One-Day Cup last season, in the group stages by six wickets and in the semi-final by 83 runs, courtesy of a memorable 164 from Ben Stokes.

Stoneman said: “I suppose one advantage is we know what Notts’ strengths and weaknesses are as we play them regularly in the LV County Championship Division One. We are aware they have got some very good players in their line-up, both in one-day and four-day cricket.

“When you come up against some Second Division teams you don’t know the make-up of their squad as well, whereas we have played Notts a lot over the last few years.

“All the players are looking forward to it. It’s a massive game for us because we are the proud holders of the trophy and it is the only one left for us to win this season.”

Coach Jon Lewis has named a 13-man squad for the trip to Nottinghamshire, who have lost only once in the Royal London One-Day Cup this season.

Previous List A meeting between Durham and Nottinghamshire: Sept 6, 2014: At Emirates Durham ICG: Durham 353-8(Stokes 164, Mustard 89) Notts 270 all out(Taylor 114).

Stat attack:

Durham have won six of their last seven List A games away from home, including last year’s final at Lord’s.

John Hastings was the lading wicket taker in the group stages with 17 scalps to his name.

Jake Ball need three wickets to take 50 in List A cricket, but has failed to take any in his last two matches.
