Seconds suffer back to back to defeats against Scotland

Durham seconds suffered back to back losses over Scotland in two T20 friendlies at Burnopfield Cricket Club.

Scotland 169/6 (MacLeod 67, Cross 49; Whitehead 2/20 Weighell 2/26) beat Durham 142/9 (Weighell 58; Leask 3/26, Evans 2/26) by 27 runs

Scotland 92/3 (Berrington 35*, Munsey 23) beat Durham 91 (Adair 27; Cameron 2/11, Main 2/15) by 7 wickets.

In the opening game Durham went down by 27 runs in a high scoring contest, despite a spirited half century from James Weighell.

Having won the toss Scotland skipper Kyle Coetzer elected to bat as they prepare for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Qualifier next month.

The visitors posted an impressive 169 from 20 overs as former Durham batsman Callum MacLeod led the way for the visitors with 67 from 38 balls, hitting nine fours and two sixes, before being caught behind off the bowling of James Weighell.

Matthew Cross supported MacLeod with an unbeaten 49 from 48 balls, finishing one short of his half century when time was called on the first innings.

Ben Whitehead struck with 2/20 from four overs while James Weighell claimed 2/28 from his allotted overs.

Nathan Rimmington and Matthew Potts bagged one apiece for Durham.

Durham lost opener Harry Adair for three followed by Michael Jones for 10 as Hamzir Tahir and Alasdair Evans both struck early.

Scott Steel scored a 29 ball 24 but fell to Christopher Greaves, as Durham found themselves 51/4. James Weighell offered some hope batting at six with 58 from 37 balls but was bowled by Evans as Durham finished their 20 overs on 142/9.

In the second game, Durham were bowled out for just 91 in just 15.4 overs as, Safyaan Sharif, Gavin Main, Scott Cameron and Michael Leask all struck with two wickets apiece.

Harry Adair top scored with 27 and was the only batsman to get going for the home side.

Harry Munsey smashed 22 of the opening over of the game but was bowled by Nathan Rimmington for 23 along with Nick Oxley running out Oliver Hairs for seven shortly after.

Despite losing three wickets, Scotland cruised to victory in 12 overs as Richie Berrington (35) and Callum MacLeod (23) guided the visitors home by seven wickets.

Durham seconds are back in action tomorrow in two more T20 games against Scotland at Burnopfield starting at 11:00am and 2:30pm.
