Seconds end T20 group stages with double win over Lancashire at Ropery Lane

Game 1: Durham 151/5 (SW Poynter 46, JJ Bushnell 35) beat Lancashire 150/5 (T Cornall 42, GID Lavelle 37) by 5 wickets 

Game 2: Durham 139/4 /(L.Doneathy 59*) beat Lancashire 138/7 (GP Balderson 33) by 6 wickets 

Durham Seconds rounded off the group stages of the ECB 2XI T20 with a double win over Lancashire at Ropery Lane.

As of Tuesday 15 June the Seconds sit top of the North Group with 7 wins from 10 and depending on how other results go this week, have given them self a chance of progressing to finals day next Thursday at Arundel Castle, Sussex.

In the opening game Durham beat Lancashire by 5 wickets with two balls to spare, chasing down 150. Durham won the toss and elected to bowl, picking up the wicket of George Balderson in the third over, when Rushworth picked up his first.

George Lavelle and Syed Shad added 47 for the second wicket, before Stanley McAlindon sent Lavelle back to the hut after being ran out from a direct hit for 37.

Taylor Cornall top scored with an unbeaten 42, with Rushworth, Salisbury, Doneathy and Crawshaw all claiming one wicket each, as Lancs closed on 150/5.

Durham lost Harry Crawshaw early, but a 57 run partnership from Doneathy and Poynter, got Durham off to a steady start. Doneathy scored a run a ball 30 with 1 four and 1 six backed by 46 from Poynter.

Bushnell added 35 supported by 23 from Jack Burnham, as Durham chased down 150 to win by 5 wickets in the 19th over.

In game 2, Durham won the toss for the second game running and elected to bowl, with the home side getting off to a positive start picking up three wickets for 45 runs.

Durham kept up the pressure with the ball, with no Lancashire playing being able to score freely, as Jack Campbell (3/23) was the pick of the bowlers for Durham. Alfie Taylor-Clarke picked up 2/23 while both Crawshaw and Rushworth claimed one apeice.

George Balderson top scored with 33, while Syed Shad finished on 29 not out, as Lancashire closed on 138/7.

In reply, Luke Doneathy led the way with an unbeaten 59 from 51 balls with 2 fours and one six, facing 51 balls.

Stuart Poynter (27) and Harry Crawshaw (28) contributed as Durham chased down 139 in 19 overs to win by 6 wickets.
