Seconds Draw Somerset in SET Cup

Coach Alastair Maiden insists his side can go all the way in the SET Cup having drawn Somerset away in the semi-finals.

Maiden has been hugely impressed with the way his side has performed this season, having won five and drawn one of their six matches so far in the current campaign.

The one drawn match, an abandoned game against Worcestershire in July, meant Durham could not complete a 100 per cent record this season, but Maiden is full of hope as his team prepares to travel to Somerset for next week’s last four clash.

Maiden said: “We have done very well in white ball cricket this season and the fact that we have won five and drawn one in six games says it all. We will go to Taunton in confident mood but we also know Somerset are a very good side as they finished top of the southern section.

“We will probably be missing Adam Hickey and Jack Burnham on England Under-19 duty but I am sure we will put out a very strong squad and we are determined to win. We have a very talented squad and they will give 100 per cent to try to get to the final.

“It is a long trip but I’ve been told Taunton is a good pitch and we will give it our very best shot.

Durham v Somerset in the SET semi-finals will be held at Taunton Vale CC on Friday, August 21, starting at 10.30am. The other semi-final pits Derbyshire against Surrey on the same day at Chesterfield.

The winners of the last four ties will play each other at a venue yet to be decided.

On Monday, Durham won their final Second XI trophy group match against Yorkshire at the Emirtates Durham ICG.
