Seconds beat Notts for third Trophy win

Result: Durham 2nd XI (276/8; Poynter 71, Bell 60) beat Nottinghamshire 2nd XI (244; Rimmington 3/36, Coughlin 3/34) by 32 runs

Durham’s 2nd XI made it three wins from four Trophy matches with victory over Nottinghamshire at Hartlepool.

Stuart Poynter & Sol Bell were the batting stars, helping to recover from the loss of early wickets as Durham made a respectable 276/8 from 50 overs.

Bell put on 74 with Cameron Steel (36) for the third wicket before adding another 99 with Poynter.

They both fell with the score on 185 but an unbeaten 47 off 30 balls from Matthew Potts helped see out the overs with a decent total.

A good start was imperative & Josh Coughlin removed both openers inside the first ten overs to hamper the visitors’ chase.

A fifth wicket stand of 100 put them back in with a shout before George Harding’s first wicket put them back in charge.

Regular wickets therein ensured Notts were well behind the required rate & they finished 32 runs short.

The two teams will contest a three-day Championship fixture at Richmondshire starting tomorrow (Tuesday 21 May).
