Scott Borthwick in the runs and wickets for Hartlepool, plus runs for Symington, Mustard and Bowman: League Roundup

With the North East Premier League and North Yorkshire South Durham Leagues underway, Durham Cricket will continue to provide weekly updates when Durham players are in action. 

Scott Borthwick scored a fine 96 in Hartlepool’s winning draw against Richmondshire before taking four wickets with the ball. Wilf la Fontaine-Jackson got the hosts off to a nice start at Park Drive with 47 as he and Scott Borthwick put on 89 together. Borthwick went on to score 96 from 104 balls as he helped Hartlepool to 275/8 in their 50 overs.

The 35-year-old then claimed figures of 4/49 in 15 overs as he helped restrict the visitors to 191/8.

In Stockton, Luke Symington made 95 for Norton in a four-wicket defeat at The Grangefield Ground. Symington shared a 100-run stand with James Minto– who made 32, to take Norton to 101/2. The 17-year-old struck 11 fours and three sixes on his way to 95 from 131 balls, falling just five short of a century as he helped Norton post 230/5.

James Minto took 3/56 with younger brother Teddy Minto also claiming 2/35 in response but Stockton achieved victory with 10 balls to spare.

Elsewhere, Will Alexander hit a quickfire unbeaten half-century for South Northumberland in their 2-run ECB National Club Championship quarter-final defeat to Ormskirk. The Bulls were struggling at 102/6 in their chase of 205 before Alexander almost brought home victory with an unbeaten 52 from 28 balls.

George Drissell and Alexander claimed one wicket apiece as the visitors made 204/9 from 36 overs at Roseworth Terrace.

Haydon Mustard made a 41-ball 79 as Shotley Bridge raced to victory by eight wickets against Sunderland. The Bridge dismissed Sunderland for 154 at Ashbrooke Sports Club before Mustard got the visitors off to a flyer. Mustard made it to 50 from 24 balls and smashed eight fours and five sixes before he was out in the 15th over, with Shotley Bridge reaching their target just two overs later.

Academy ‘keeper-batter Robbie Bowman top scored with 72 for Tynemouth in their narrow defeat to Castle Eden. Bowman helped Tynemouth recover from 33/3 alongside Matthew Brown, striking 11 boundaries in his 111-ball innings at Parklands as he helped Tynemouth to 182.

Stanley McAlindon took two early wickets before the hosts arrested control. Tynemouth almost made a late comeback, but Castle Eden edged to victory by one wicket.

Paul Coughlin claimed 3/34 in Hetton Lyons’ victory at Jesmond. Coughlin struck early before returning with two wickets in his second spell as Newcastle were all out for 165. Coughlin then got the Lyons over the line with 16* as the visitors chased down 166, just three wickets down.
