Riverside hosts international exchange visit

Over 70 children came to the ground, where they took part in a packed day of activities. During the morning participants went into the Sky Sports studio where they filmed their own Sky Sports News report in front of the cameras. The groups then took part in a question and answer session with Durham all-rounder Will Gidman, and England Ladies international Danielle Hazell. There were some fantastic questions, both cricket related and about the lifestyle of professional cricketers, with some interesting choices of musical idols!

There was a quick break for lunch before the children were back into the activities. Half of the group took part in a coaching session in the indoor school, while the other half had a ‘behind the scenes’ tour of Riverside, getting to see areas of the Riverside that spectators don’t get to see.

The coaching session was led by Durham CCC coaching staff, with a packed session of games and matches, giving the children from around Europe a taster of the game. It was the Norwegian children that came out on top in the final match!

For many of the children this was their first experience of cricket, and this was a great way to be introduced to the sport. All the participating schools were given cricket information and cricket equipment to take home with them so they could give it a go at home and introduce the game to their friends.
