Rimmington confident of fighting back

Nathan Rimmington was upbeat about Durham’s chances of overturning a 65-run deficit after Day One at Emirates Riverside.

A whirlwind day saw 21 wickets fall, as Durham fought back after being bowled out for 91.

Rimmington took 3-39 on his Durham debut as the bowlers reduced Kent to 169 all out to keep their side in the game.

With Kent having been bowled out for 64 by Gloucestershire last week, he feels there is still a good chance to fight back if they can build a lead tomorrow.

“Not what I expected this morning!” He said. “But we’re in a decent position if we can bat well tomorrow. I think the first job is to cross the deficit off and we’ll see where we get from there.

“You look at their guys, they’ve been bowled out cheaply last week and today as well.

“There might be a few demons for their boys and any chase will be tricky.”

The seamers all enjoyed the conditions, with many dismissals coming courtesy of bowled and LBW decisions – not quite how Rimmington had expected the game to pan out before the first ball.

“I went to sleep last night dreaming about bowling outswingers and nicking blokes off.

“The way the game turned out the stumps came into the game more and it was reversing a little bit.

“I think it did get lower and slower as the day went on and that style of bowling suits me, with the keeper up and bringing the stumps into play.”

Despite such a low scoring first day, the Aussie feels there is an opportunity for the batsmen to make their mark on Day Two.

“A couple of their guys showed that if you can show a bit of application it’s certainly a wicket that you can score runs on, even though runs might not flow easily.”

“We are where we are at the moment and hopefully we’ll fight back.”
