Returning home as Division 2 Champions, our final squad of the summer named

The final week of the season is here as Division 2 Winners Durham take on Leicestershire tomorrow at Seat Unique Riverside, as we look to round off a successful season on home soil.

Head Coach Ryan Campbell has named a 12-player squad, as Durham head out at Chester le Street as Champions, hoping to finish the season off in style.

The only change to the squad which travelled to New Road is that Bas de Leede has now joined up with the Netherlands for the ICC Men’s World Cup in India – with no additions being made to the Durham squad.

Durham began last week against Worcestershire needing five points to secure the Division Two crown, on top of winning promotion last week.

1 bowling point against Leicestershire this week will give Durham their highest amount of batting points in history having already picked up 49 this season.

Alex Lees remains the Division 2 leading run scorer with 1341 runs, while Ollie Robinson (919) and David Bedingham (863) also make the top 10 divisional run makers in the country.

Ben Raine (54) and Matthew Potts (51) top the leading wicket takers in Division 2 with both reaching the half-century mark with the ball.

Words from Ryan Campbell

We came down to Worcestershire last week knowing what we wanted to do and win the title, we have done that which is a fantastic achievement for all the players and staff. We might have won the Division 2 title but this team still isn’t satisfied, they want to get better and just being promoted wasn’t what we wanted, we wanted to take the title and that is what we have done.

This team took on board what we wanted to achieve, we had that goal in mind of wanting to be promoted and win the title and each and every one in that dressing has shown what we are about. I had my ideas about how we went about it this season, but the players had to believe in it and they 100% have done. It’s all down to them, it has been a pretty easy show to coach.

What you will see this week against Leicestershire is what you have seen all season, we are coming home to lift the trophy in front of our home crowd. Our members have suffered for a little while, so it is our obligation to come home and play a magnificent game of four day cricket. I have no doubt that we will bring our A game, if Leicestershire want to beat us and say they have beaten the Champs then that is great – but they will need to bring an amazing game of cricket to us as we will be ready.
