Percy Hedley wins table cricket final

Percy Hedley beat off stiff competition from teams from Oxclose school, Washington, Beaumont Hill Education Village, Darlington and a team made up from pupils from several schools in Sunderland.
The teams from Beaumont Hill and the Sunderland schools finished in joint second place with last year’s winners Oxclose school finishing fourth.

Each school brings a squad of 8 players from which to select its 6 man team and each player plays against someone of a similar ability.  Disability cricket coach Ron Young had visited each of the teams to explain the rules and Beaumont Hill and Oxclose school have been organising weekly training sessions with their own coaches in preparation for the competition.

After yesterday’s success Percy Hedley will now travel to London to participate in finals day at Lord’s on 12 May.
The event at Riverside was attended by representatives from The Lord’s Taverners who donate equipment to the initiative.
