Paul Coughlin to depart Durham following 2025 season

Durham Cricket can confirm that Paul Coughlin will leave the club upon the expiry of his contract this summer.

An Academy and pathway graduate with Durham, Coughlin signed his first professional deal in 2013 and has gone onto represent the Club across all formats over two spells in Chester le Street.

His first-class debut came in 2012 against Australia A and has since played 166 times in both red and white ball cricket for the County.

Coughlin claimed a career best 5-42, while going onto pick up 5 five–fors during his time with Durham in a total of 224 Durham scalps to his name.

The 32-year-old scored his maiden first-class century against Worcestershire with 100 not out, pass 2500 runs during his time in the North East.

The Hetton born cricketer enjoyed a stint as Durham T20 Captain and earned England Lions recognition while a Durham player.

Director of Cricket, Marcus North said: “It has been a challenging few years for Paul where he has struggled to maintain regular game-time.

“However, since his return back to his home county, Coggers played a key part to us winning the Division Two Championship and promotion back into Division One.

“Having progressed through our academy and then into the senior squad over two spells, we are hugely thankful to Paul for his contributions during that time.

“We thank Coggers for his commitment and professionalism during his time with us and wish him success in his next chapter.”

 On his departure Coughlin said: “It’s been a huge honour to represent Durham over the years, and I’m incredibly grateful to Marcus North for bringing me back to the club and giving me the opportunity to play here again.

“I’ve made some great memories and friendships that I’ll cherish forever and while I’m sad to be leaving, I’m also really looking forward to a new challenge and the next chapter of my career.”
