Owen Harwood scores unbeaten 102 to lead Durham Boys’ Under 18s to dramatic three-wicket victory over Cheshire at Ashton on Mersey Cricket Club in the County One Day Cup.
After opting to bat first in Sale, Cheshire got off to a strong start reaching 105/2 after 19 overs with and early strike for Sam Hood alongside a run out.
Durham bounced back with three wickets in four overs as the hosts were reduced to 111/5, losing three wickets for six runs.
Young led a Cheshire batting fightback with 51 from 52 balls in a sixth-wicket partnership of 58 to take the hosts to 169/6 in the 35th over.
A seventh-wicket stand of 26 helped Cheshire to 195 before wickets began to fall sharply with the first innings wrapped up within 38.3 overs on 204.
Wickets were shared around between the Durham bowlers with two scalps apiece for Teddy Minto, Jim Twiddy, Harry Walker and Isaac Tate.
The Young Ds found runs hard to come by in response closing their opening 10 overs on 31/1.
Cheshire picked up three further wickets in quick succession with Durham reduced to 56/4.
Walker steadied the ship alongside with the pair adding 26 for the fifth wicket but Durham were soon 99/6 in the 27th over with Harwood unbeaten on 38.
The 17-year-old passed 50 from 66 balls with five four and one six in a 38-run stand for the seventh wicket, until Tate was dismissed in the 39th with Durham 137/7.
Harwood then began to accelerate adding 46 from his next 28 balls, reaching three figures from 97 balls with 14 fours and two maximums.
His partnership of 65 alongside Andrew Stonehouse led Durham to a dramatic three-wicket victory with 4.4 overs remaining.
