Outlaws Outplay Dynamos

Durham have been taught a lesson in t20 after a dominant display from big hitter and Nottingham t20 specialist Michael Lumb who eased the visitors to victory this evening.

Lumb’s Man of the Match performance of 96 from 52 balls saw the Outlaws continue their winning streak in the competition whilst their win handed Durham their second defeat of the week-end despite skipper Mark Stoneman finding some form with a solid half century.

Earlier in the day hot and sunny conditions greeted players and a very healthy crowd gathered to enjoy the summer’s day at Emirates Durham ICG for the Dynamo’s second home Friends Life t20 match.

The Dynamos were sent in after the Outlaws won the toss and got off to a solid start on a good batting pitch with openers Phil Mustard and Mark Stoneman contributing 38 before the loss of the first wicket.

Mustard christened the new stand by going long and registering his second six of the day but the next ball chipped to mid-on to find Notts Captain Dave Hussey who took a nice catch to dismiss the Dynamos opener for 15 from 13 balls.

Number three Scott Borthwick then came to the crease and also began well, finding the boundaries and combining with Stoneman who was striking the ball with ease with the pair also running well between wickets.

Stoneman put together a superb captains innings which included a monster six which found its way over the top of the old scoreboard and progressed to 51 from 40 before his opposition skipper Hussey bowled him, ending a 59 run stand between him and Borthwick in the 14th over.

The skipper’s innings brought big hitter Ben Stokes to the crease but he only stayed for a couple of overs, dismissed trying the ramp shot for 7.

Borthwick carried on to make his way to 40 from 37 before he was bowled by Hussey after a solid knock.

The Durham innings finished with some big hitters at the crease with Gareth Breese and Gordon Muchall contributing 33 from 16 to see Durham past 150.

Breese smashed 18 from 7 and Muchall 16 from 11 in the final stages to leave Durham 154-4 at the end of their 20 overs.

The Outlaws began the run chase with ease with big hitter and t20 specialist Michael Lumb in good touch early alongside Alex Hales who were finding the boundaries consistently.

The pair put on a 91 run stand with Lumb bringing up 50 off just 30 balls before a change of bowling gave Durham the much needed breakthrough.

Breese struck with his first ball to dismiss Hales for 34 in the 10th over bringing another skillful batsman, James Taylor to the crease.

Taylor and Lumb then combined and put on a further 56 runs before Lumb’s superb knock came to an end just 4 runs shy of a century.

His 96 came off only 52 balls and included 14 fours and 3 sixes.

With Nottingham only needing just a handful of runs to win, it was left to Outlaws skipper Dave Hussey to put the nail in the coffin for Durham and send the ball over the fence to give his side their fourth win from as many matches, Taylor finishing on 15no.

The result was disappointing for Durham, on the back of the loss against Leicestershire last night but they must now regroup ahead of an important LV=CC match against Derbyshire starting Monday at Emirates Durham ICG.
