On the boundary with Phil Mustard

“We had a really good week in Dubai with some really tough days, working hard, so credit to the guys for getting of the plane and coming here today and performing well.

“Woody, who made his debut today, is obviously young and still has things to learn but the way he has bowled today showed that he some real capability.  He works really hard and I think that shows on the pitch and he’s confident.

“Scott Borthwick finished the trip last week on a real high note, taking a five-fer, and he bowled just as well here today despite the cold and he went on to pick up three wickets so I’m really pleased for him.

“Before last week I hadn’t seen much of Michael Richardson as we’ve always been in different sides! But, I used the pre season tour as an opportunity to have a few chats and practice sessions with him and without doubt the week out there has been really beneficial for him, he kept really well. To do that whole week in Dubai is really hard work and he came out today and took four catches and a stumping so the quality is definitely there.  If I can help him improve his keeping then I’m more than happy to help.

“Rocky [Mark Stoneman] has looked really strong in the last year and a half or so, he’s got a solid base and hits the ball really well.   He’s starting the season in a really good frame of mind and I think he’s going to be really important for us this year.”
