Northants fixture finishes without play

Close, Day Four: Northamptonshire vs Durham – Play abandoned

Durham suffered the fourth complete washout in the Club’s first-class history after Day Four of the Specsavers County Championship match at Northamptonshire was abandoned.

Despite a slight improvement in the weather, the outfield remained unplayable following days of bad weather & the players shook hands shortly before 9:30am on Monday.

It is the fourth time a Durham first-class fixture has been completely abandoned after matches against Hampshire in 1997 & Nottinghamshire in 2008, both at Emirates Riverside, alongside a fixture against Surrey at the Kia Oval in 2012.

The players will now turn their attentions to Friday’s home clash against Leicestershire.

Close, Day Three: Northamptonshire vs Durham – Play abandoned

Durham’s Specsavers County Championship match against Northamptonshire is heading for a complete washout after Day Three also went by the wayside.

With the outfield still completely sodden after more rain on Saturday, the umpires deemed the ground unfit & play was called off again shortly before 10am.

Given a severely damp forecast & yellow warning for rain on Monday, the likelihood is of a complete abandonment of the game.

It would be Durham’s fourth washout in first-class cricket following matches against Hampshire in 1997 & Nottinghamshire in 2008, both at Emirates Riverside, alongside a fixture against Surrey at the Kia Oval in 2012.

Close, Day Two: Northamptonshire vs Durham – Play abandoned

There was again no play on Day Two of Durham’s Specsavers County Championship match against Northamptonshire at Wantage Road.

Further bouts of heavy rain throughout the rest of Friday & overnight continued into the morning, leaving the outfield soaking wet through.

With water splashing up around the umpires’ ankles on their first inspection at around 9:30am, the decision was taken to abandon play for the second straight day.

More rain is forecasted to fall into the afternoon & although the forecast is slightly improved for tomorrow, a yellow warning for rain is in force for Monday, meaning the prospect of any result is very slim at best.

Close, Day One: Northamptonshire vs Durham – Play abandoned

No play was possible on the first day of Durham’s Specsavers County Championship match against Northamptonshire at Wantage Road.

After persistent rain overnight & into the morning with little prospect of conditions improving throughout the day, play was called off at 10:30am.

The umpires will assess conditions again tomorrow.
