North East Sports Awards: Durham win the Double

GC

Durham CCC Chief Operating Officer, Richard Dowson, said, “Both the team and Geoff fully deserved their awards last night.  Winning the LV= County Championship was a fantastic moment for the Club and to have our success recognised in the North East region is a proud moment. Geoff receiving the lifetime achievement award really is an acknowledgment of his contribution to North East sport. He has truly been a vital part of Durham’s First Class history, overseeing 3 County Championship titles in 6 years. Geoff has also brought through many young cricketers who not only represent Durham but represent England”.

The region’s most talented sportsmen and women arrived at the newly refurbished Billingham Forum to find out who had been crowned this year’s winners.

The event celebrated the sporting successes of the North East with many of the region’s top sportsmen on the guest list.

The North East Sports Awards recognises contributions across all elements of sport – from coaches to volunteers to elite performers and teams. Categories include Sports Personality of the Year, Disabled Sports Personality of the Year, Team of the Year, Unsung Hero and more.

This prestigious event is organised by BBC North East, BBC Outreach, Sport England, Stockton Council and Tees Active Leisure.

If you want to support the Team of the Year and Join the Champions you can become a Durham CCC Member, which entitles you to admission to all home LV= County Championship, NatWest T20 BLAST and Royal London One – Day Cup matches.
