Newman collects Volunteer of the Year Award

Durham CCC Head Coach Geoff Cook and former Essex player Ronnie Irani presented the accolade to Bernard, who  won the award due to his involvement and dedication to his local club but also due to his commitment to co-ordinating the Visually Impaired Commentary Team for Durham CCC’s home four day and one day fixtures.

On winning the award Bernard said, “I was delighted to win Volunteer of the Year.  Whilst this award was mostly for the work that I do for cricket, including my club and league work, my work as Coordinator for the Visually Impaired Team was also part of the award. Without the help of the Visually Impaired Commentary team the service would not happen so I accepted the award from Geoff Cook and Ronnie Irani on behalf of everyone who has given up their time and put a great amount of effort into making our team so successful.”

Durham CCC offers Visually Impaired Commentary at all home four day and one day fixtures a Emirates Durham ICG.  Whilst use of he service is free of charge, user are required to purchase an admission ticket for the fixture and reserve their place with the commentary team prior to the fixture.
