Nathan Sowter pens two-year deal until 2027

Leg spinner Nathan Sowter will remain at Durham Cricket until at least the end of the 2027 season after agreeing a new white ball deal with the club.

After initially joining Durham on loan during the 2022 season, Sowter has penned a new contract with the club for at least another two years.

Sowter who spent 7 years at Middlesex before joining Durham has been a consistent performer throughout the Vitality Blast side since his move to the North East.

The 32-year-old was a shining light throughout Durham’s 2024 Vitality Blast campaign, claiming 19 wickets on Durham’s way to the Quarter Finals for the first time since 2018.

He picked up 23 wickets during the 2023 season, the most wickets in a T20 campaign in Durham’s history, surpassing 22 taken by Usman Arshad in 2015. His 24 wickets came at 14 as he took his maiden T20 five wicket haul of 5/15 against Northamptonshire Steelbacks.

He picked up his 100th T20 wicket in Durham colours when he dismissed Jos Butler, and currently has 183 T20 scalps to his name.

Sowter is now a regular on the franchise circuit helping guide Oval Invincibles to their third tournament win in the Men’s Hundred, earning a player of the match performance picking up three wickets in seven balls in the final.

While he also played for Desert Vipers, Guayana Amazon Warriors and Kathmandu Gurkhas.

Sowter said: “I’m really happy to have extended my contract with Durham for another two years.

“We have made great strides in our T20 cricket over the last two seasons, and I am looking forward to contributing further to the success of Durham and bringing silverware to the Northeast.”

“Since joining Durham, we have enjoyed seeing so many match winning contributions from Sowts.

“He is such a key performer for us and in my opinion has become the best domestic leg spinner in the T20 Blast; to secure his future at Durham is extremely exciting.”
