Mustard stars in double 2nd XI victory

Phil Mustard warmed up for tonight’s Natwest T20 Blast fixture against the Nottinghamshire Outlaws with a blistering century against Yorkshire 2nd XI.

The wicketkeeper struck 104 from 57 balls, including 12x4s and 4x6s, in the second of two wins against the Yorkies at Brandon CC.

His innings was the backbone of an imposing total of 205/3, with other batsmen chipping in at more than a run a ball.

Fellow opener Adam Hickey struck 36 including two sixes, Calum MacLeod hit 40 from 28 balls while Stuart Poynter finished 12*.

Yorkshire’s reply was spearheaded by England all-rounder David Willey. On his return from injury, Willey launched 108 from 45 balls including a mammoth seven maximums.

The visitors looked on course for victory but when Willey departed in the 14th over to Jamie Harrison, their reply petered out.

Ex-Yorkshire man Gurman Randhawa took two wickets against his former club and Josh Coughlin also took a wicket as they fell 14 runs short.

It completed a second successive victory after Neil Killeen’s side earlier ran out 23-run winners in the first meeting.

That man Mustard again top-scored with 29, alongside Irishman Poynter, as Durham managed 121/9 from their 20 overs.

Regular wickets continually checked their momentum as only Gordon Muchall and Josh Coughlin joined the other two in double figures.

But a superb bowling effort spearheaded by Usman Arshad limited the visitors to 98 all out.

Arshad removed both openers, Willey included, in a spell of 3/17 while Randhawa managed the two wickets of Yorkshire’s top scorers, Matthew Waite and Elliot Callis.
