Mustard form continues as Eagles defeat the Dynamos

Mustard spoke to the Durham website after the match….

“One if the things I’ve learnt in the past year is that you can get a bad name for getting thirty and then getting out –and when I started this season I thought I needed to start taking some responsibility and try to bat through because I’m one of the oldest in the dressing room now.

“I’ve worked hard this year to try and get a hundred and when I finally do get it, we get beaten.  It hasn’t worked out the best but we did give ourselves a very good opportunity of winning the game.  It’s hard to take it on the chin to be honest.

“This is a good hundred for me – I was hitting the ball in the right places.  Early on it moved around a bit and we had to reign ourselves in a little bit and obviously Blackie adapted to that quicker than I did and got us off to a flying start.  Blackie batted well today, it was a shame he got out, but once he did it was up to me to take us all the way home.

“I’ve played pretty well in all competitions this year, I’m averaging about 49 in the Championship, and doing well in the Pro 40, like I said, it’s all about taking responsibility in all forms.

“The responsibility brings the best out of me – rather than being the boy who hits a quick thirty off 20 balls and gets out, now I’m trying to look forward and trying to put myself in the frame for England again.

“I’d like to get more hundreds but all in all I’m happy with the way I’m playing this year, I’m keeping pretty good, batting pretty well and there’s a good buzz around the dressing room”.
