Men’s Bowlers to train in Spain to continue pre-season preparations

Durham Cricket can confirm that following the cancellation of the Men’s tour to Abu Dhabi, Durham’s bowlers will now travel to Spain.

Due to the situation in the Middle East, Ryan Campbell’s squad were unable to travel to the United Arab Emirates meaning alternative arrangements have been made in preparation for the 2026 season.

Eight bowlers will depart for Desert Springs in Almería on Saturday for a six-day training camp which will be led by Men’s Lead Bowling coach, Graham Onions.

Director of Cricket, Marcus North said: “We’re pleased to confirm that our bowlers will take part in a six-day training camp at Desert Springs later this week.

“We explored alternative options for the full squad to tour to maximise the remainder of pre-season, but with a number of counties in a similar situation we were unfortunately unable to arrange another full tour at this stage.

“This camp in Spain will be hugely beneficial for our bowlers, giving them the opportunity to get out on grass in a warmer climate and build overs ahead of the 2026 season.

“I’d also like to thank the squad for their cooperation and understanding at such short notice as we adjusted our pre-season plans.”

Durham women’s squad are set to depart to the United Arab Emirates on Monday 23 March and the Club will provide further information in due course on their travel plans.
