Durham Seconds defeat Leicestershire by 10 wickets at Kibworth

Durham Seconds enjoyed a commanding 10 wicket win over Leicestershire in 2 and a half days, to secure their second Championship win of the season at Kibworth Cricket Club.

Resuming on 52/2, Leicestershire lost their first wicket of the morning seven overs in when Harry Dearden cut the ball into the hands of Matthew Potts for Jack Campbell to claim his first wicket of the innings.

Nick Welch (28) and Scott Steel (16) hit six fours between them, but Welch was caught in the slips by Graham Clark off the bowling of Liam Trevaskis, with Oli Gibson pinning Steel LBW.

The dismissal of Scott Steel saw the home side collapse, as Liam Trevaskis spun the Leicestershire lower order out, claiming 4/12 from 11.3 overs. None of the Leicestershire lower order reaching double figures.

Gibson (2/13), Campbell (1/32) and Ul-Haq (1/3) also struck, with Leicestershire being bowled out for 127 setting Durham just 35 to win.

Sean Dickson (20) hit three fours and one six backed by 17 from Graham Clark with two fours and one six, as Durham cruised home in 5.4 overs.

Durham Seconds lead by 38 going into day 3 of their Championship fixture against Leicestershire at Kibworth, as the hosts closed on 52/2, in reply to Durham’s 283 all out.

Resuming on 18/1, Cameron Bancroft and Mike Jones shared a second wicket stand of 66, before Bancroft was dismissed playing a reverse sweep which caught the top of his bat, falling for 40. Jones added a further 83 with Jonathan Bushnell, scoring 30 with 2 fours, but was bowled by Scott Steel who claimed his second wicket.

Scott Steel continued to strike against his former club, picking up the wicket of Mike Jones, who top scored for Durham, with 67 from 159 balls.

Paul Coughlin and Luke Doneathy were dismissed by Steel in consecutive balls, reducing Durham to 195/6, leading by five.

Matthew Potts played Scott Steel off his legs to bring up the 200, with tea called shortly after.

Potts scored 62 off 55 balls with four fours and five sixes, as Durham were bowled out for 283 with a lead of 92.

Scott Steel was the pick of the bowlers with 6/76 from 21.4 overs while George Rhodes claimed 3/75.

With 19 overs left in the day, Leicestershire closed on 52/2 with Matthew Potts and Matt Salisbury picking up the two wickets to fall.

Day 1 of Durham Seconds Championship game against Leicestershire was heavily interrupted with rain, as only 57.1 overs were possible at Kibworth Cricket Club.

Leicestershire won the toss and elected to bat, with Matthew Potts striking in the third over when he had Sam Bates caught by Oli Gibson for 8. Potts struck 13 balls later when he bowled George Rhodes for 8.

The right arm bowler picked up his third wicket when he dismissed Nick Welch LBW for 6.

At 61/3, rain forced the players off the field at 1:30pm, with the final session getting back underway at half 3.

Potts was straight in the action after the resumption when Harry Dearden was caught by Sean Dickson for 35 in first slip, as he claimed his fourth of the innings. Leicestershire being reduced to 61/4.

Former Durham player Scott Steel and Dylan Church shared a fifth wicket stand of 114, Scott Steel top scoring with 86 before he was pinned lbw, hitting nine fours and three sixes, as Matthew Potts claimed a five-wicket haul.

Liam Trevaskis picked up 3/6 from 6 overs, while Potts had Jarred Lysaught caught for 1 as he bagged his sixth wicket, as Leicestershire were bowled out for 191 in 51.1 overs.

Durham had six overs to bat out the night but lost Sean Dickson for 11, as Cameron Bancroft (7*) and Mike Jones (0*) saw Durham out on 18/1.
