Matt Salisbury returns to Durham squad for Lancashire Royal London Cup fixture

Durham return back to Royal London Cup action tomorrow, when they take on Lancashire at Gosforth’s South Northumberland Cricket Club at 11am.

Matt Salisbury returns back to the Durham squad and could make his first List A appearance this summer, having been isolating due to coming into close contact with a coronavirus case.

With the addition of Matt Salisbury the remaining Durham squad remain the same as Alan Walker has gone with a 14 man squad.

Durham now sit in 4th place in Group A with 5 points and face a Lancashire side who are currently in second spot with 7 points.

Lancashire are without seven regular first team players due to the Hundred but the Old Trafford side have still impressed so far this campaign with 4 wins from 5 games, losing their first game yesterday against Middlesex in a 6 run thriller at Old Trafford.

Rob Jones is their top run scorer with 152 runs, while Danny Lamb has 9 wickets and is their leading wicket taker.

Former Durham man Keaton Jennings suffered a calf injury in yesterday’s game against Middlesex and is being monitored by the Lancashire medical team, therefore is unlikely to feature tomorrow.

Thursday’s clash against Lancashire will be the 34th time Durham have gone up against the Red Rose in List-A cricket, with their most recent fixture taking place in 2019, which was also at Roseworth Terrace.

Alex Lees scored his maiden List A century for Durham in that game, with 115 in 127 balls as Durham posted 229 all out in 48.2 overs. Lancashire edged home by 3 wickets with 4 balls to spare chasing down 230 with Matt Salisbury and Ben Raine both picking up two wickets apiece.

Words from Graham Clark

“Every point is vital for us now in the competition. If you miss out on a win another team will be closing in fast on you. Lancashire have such a strong team even with a few players missing at The Hundred. We know it’s going to be a tough match, but if we perform at our best there’s no reason why we cannot turn them over. We played Lancashire there two years ago, it was a close game and they just got over the line. We want to put it right this time around, but it will not be easy.”

The Club’s match centre will be in operation for the fixtures with live scorecards, statistics & video highlights as they happen. You can watch the game live via the Durham Cricket YouTube channel.

Tickets

Tickets will be available to purchase from the main gate at South Northumberland Cricket priced at Adults £15 and Juniors £5.
