Letter from Sir Ian Botham: Thank you Durham Members

Now the season has come to a close, it is the time to reflect on what has been a surreal past couple of months.

As the dust settles on 2020, I thought now would be the perfect time to write to all of our Members thanking you for your continued support towards the club.

2020 has been a difficult year for us all and I hope we can begin to move forward as soon as possible and get back on with our lives with some kind of normality.

I know you will have missed watching Durham in action this past summer, and I can assure you all, myself and the rest of the players, coaches and staff have missed having you present at Emirates Riverside.

We widely recognise the immense contribution that you have made in becoming a Durham Defender and continuing to support the Club in what is a very difficult and uncertain period for us all.

I know some of you may not have been able to take advantage of the Durham Defender initiative, but have remained or intend to remain, a Durham member for next season. As a club we would like to sincerely thank you all for showing your support under such difficult circumstances.

Annual membership subscriptions are a crucial part of the club’s revenues and we have been overwhelmed that the majority of members have already donated and renewed memberships ahead of the 2021 season. Your investment in the club is helping us to navigate an extremely difficult period off the field.

Although you haven’t been able to watch the Durham team live in action this season, we hope you have enjoyed making the most of watching the live stream through the Durham website. We have very much enjoyed providing you with the opportunity to watch Durham in action through a multi-camera stream and we hope to develop this further moving forward.

As Chairman of this great club, can I once again thank you all for your excellent support on behalf of the whole club. We very much look forward to seeing you back at Emirates Riverside in 2021, enjoying first class and international cricket. We are working towards building a team and club that we can all be proud of and are excited for what lies ahead at Durham Cricket.

Keep safe and stay well.

Regards,

Sir Ian Botham

Chairman Durham Cricket
