Jonathan Bushnell stars for Durham 2nd XI as he makes 121 against Scotland A in a comprehensive Durham victory at the Grange.

Durham won the toss and chose to bat first; Ben McKinney and Bushnell’s partnership was worth 24 by the time Jasper Davidson had McKinney bowled for 13.

Bushnell continued and shared a 54-run stand with Ross Whitfield in 11 overs. Whitfield was then bowled by Steven Green for 30 to leave Durham 78 for two after 16 and a half overs.

Bushnell continued to plug away against the Scotland A bowling attack alongside compatriot Paul Coughlin, who enjoyed a return to action as he scored 50 from 48 deliveries. The pair combined for 105, taking Durham to 183 as Coughlin fell to James Dickinson.

Liam Trevaskis came out firing upon his arrival in the 36th over; he struck four fours and a six in his innings of 25 which came from just 11 balls, which took Durham to 220 for four.

Dickinson picked up a second wicket as he dismissed Trevaskis leg before wicket before Bushnell struck a boundary in the 40th over to bring up his century.

Durham struggled to produce another partnership of note with the final six wickets falling for 58 runs. Luke Doneathy, Mitchell Killeen and George Drissell all fell to Kess Sajjad to reduce Durham to 257 for seven.

Bushnell was the next to depart as he was caught behind from Jasper Davidson’s bowling after hitting 13 fours and one maximum in his 121. Harry Crawshaw, Hayden Mustard and Dan Hogg were the three remaining batters; the latter two fell cheaply.

Harry Crawshaw finished unbeaten on 14 as Jasper and Ollie Davidson claimed one wicket apiece to bowl Durham out for 278 with one ball remaining. Jasper Davidson and Sajjad took three wickets each for the hosts.

Durham kept it tight early on before making early inroads through Killeen and Hogg to reduce Scotland A to eight for two with Jamie Crawley and Liam Naylor dismissed.

Brandon Glover then took two wickets from his first three overs to put Scotland A 55 for four including the wicket of Taimoor Ahmad for the hosts’ top score of 26. Bushnell could do no wrong with ball in hand either as he picked up the wicket of Owen Gould in his fifth over.

The introduction of Trevaskis brought about another pair of wickets for Durham as he bowled Jasper Davidson before he got revenge on Dickinson, dismissing him for 12 and leaving the hosts 94 for seven.

George Drissell ensured Ollie Davidson’s innings was short-lived, dismissing him for one before he had opposition skipper Finlay McCreath out stumped for 23. The final partnership stood for 24 runs before Drissell picked up his third wicket to bowl the hosts out for 136.

Durham won by 142 runs with 12.3 overs remaining as Drissell claimed figures of 3-37 as well as Trevaskis and Glover finishing with a pair of wickets apiece.
