Jon Lewis updates from Academy India Trip

“We arrived in India pretty tired, with a three hour journey by road ahead of us – and it was quite an eye opener, especially for the lads as this is their first trip here.  There was a fair bit of action on the road which wasn’t helped by an elephant seemingly roaming the carriageway!

“We spent the first day getting our bearings at our base which is five minutes away from the ground and checking out the training facilities.

“We’re now three full days of practice into the trip and so far so good. The cricket has been excellent with all the lads spending an enormous amount of time with their pads on facing the local spinners on turning pitches.

“A net session in England would last around 20 minutes per batsman but here the guys bat for up to an hour at a time and two or three times each day. In between they are also doing drills and learning from the local coaches and bowlers. With the temperatures reaching the mid 30s by the early afternoon it has been energy sapping but everyone is coping.

“The experience so far has been brilliant and has definitely been an education for the lads, in cultural terms, as well as in relation to cricket.”
