James Minto signs two-year rookie contract

Durham Cricket are pleased to announce that James Minto has signed his first professional contract with the Club – penning a two-year rookie deal running until the end of the 2026 season.

Minto, a product of the Durham Cricket pathway joined the Academy in 2024, having first represented the Club at Under-14 level, progressing through the Cleveland programme.

The 17-year-old all-rounder made his Durham first-class debut against Surrey at the Oval and has played four red ball games for Durham, picking up a best of 5/21 against Zimbabwe A in Harare.

The left-arm quick made his professional debut at New Road against Worcestershire in the Metro Bank One Day Cup and has claimed 12 wickets across red and white ball formats for the Club.

He was part of the England Under-19s squad which toured South Africa during the winter of 2025 and featured in both the long and short formats for the Young Lions.

Director of Cricket, Marcus North said: “It’s great to see James rewarded for the excellent performances he has put in for Durham over the last couple of seasons.

“He has impressed with his skills but his maturity and match awareness at just 17 has been impressive.

“James has performed well when opportunities presented in a Durham shirt and then into the winter with England, we look forward to seeing him perform for Durham in the coming years.”

Minto added: “I’m extremely happy and excited to have signed my first rookie contract with Durham.

“I love playing for the Club and this contract is something I have been working towards for the last couple of seasons, so to sign for my home county is a dream come true.

“To have the opportunity to represent Durham is something I am privileged to do, and I can’t wait to contribute on the field over the coming years.”
