James Minto named in England Young Lions Invitational squad

Durham Cricket are delighted to confirm boys’ Academy all-rounder James Minto has been named in the England Young Lions Invitational squad.

Minto has been named in the squad which will take on England and Sri Lanka this week at Loughborough University.

Match preparation for England and Sri Lana ahead of their ODI series, the invitational squad will be in action on Monday 24 and Tuesday 25 June in two fifty over fixtures.

The batting all-rounder who plays his club cricket at Norton in the Yorkshire South Durham League, signed his first Academy contract during the winter.

Minto who was part of the Under 15s and Under 16s squads last summer scored 545 runs, top scoring with an unbeaten 74* in a 9 wicket win over Lancashire. Also scoring 728 runs for Norton last season with a best of 89 not out against Wolviston in the North Yorkshire South Durham Division 1.

John Windows, Durham Academy Director, said: “This is great news for James, and is the first step on the international pathway.

“We are so lucky at Durham to have a fabulous coaching team and support staff.

“The effort and support he has enjoyed and benefited from to help him get this selection shouldn’t be underestimated and often goes under the radar.

“James is a super prospect and a great lad. He works extremely hard and thoroughly deserves his selection. I am confident he will do himself justice and represent himself, Norton Cricket Club and Durham with distinction.”
