Durham Seconds bowl Kent out for 97 to win by 269 at Beckenham

Durham 170 & 390/9d beat Kent 144 & 97 by 269 runs 

Durham Seconds needed just 18.3 overs on Day 4 to wrap up victory at Beckenham to secure their third win of the season in the ECB 2XI Championship.

Needing to take 5 Kent wickets on the final day, Durham struck inside five overs as Jack Campbell dismissed former Derbyshire bowler Hamidullah Qadri for 9.

Jacob Milzt offered the only resistance for Kent as the right hander faced 69 balls for his 17 but Mitchell Killeen trapped him LBW, with Killeen picking up two wickets in two balls when he had Hooper caught for 10.

The home side lost their final three wickets for 9 runs, Luke Doneathy getting Durham’s ninth when Samuel Ellis was caught by Tom Mackintosh for 2.

Before Harry Crawshaw wrapped up the Kent innings four balls later, when Durham sub fielder Will Gidman caught Singh, Kent being bowled out for 97 in 39.3 overs.

Mitchell Killeen claimed (3/16), Jack Campbell (3/39) and Matt Salisbury (2/24) all struck with Doneathy and Crawshaw picking up one  apiece, as Durham won by 269 runs.

Day 3

Durham 340/9 (T Mackintosh 143, CT Steel 69, SW Poynter 44) lead Kent 60/5 by 306 runs

Tom Mackintosh led the way with a fine 143 on Day 3 of Durham’s ECB 2XI Championship match against Kent at Beckenham, as Durham closed in a strong position.

Durham resumed day 3 on 66/1 and it took Cameron Steel just one ball  to bring up his half century hitting Wightman for four runs, his 50 coming up from 55 deliveries. In an opening over where he scored 12 from it.

Steel and Mackintosh continued to score throughout the morning session, sharing a 2nd wicket stand of 101. Steel falling for 69 caught behind off the bowling of Singh with 8 fours in his innings.

Stuart Poynter was the next man to the crease scoring a 44 ball 48 with six fours and one maximum in a third wicket partnership of 73 with Mackintosh, before the Durham skipper was pinned LBW by Elliot Hooper.

Mackintosh continued to bat throughout the afternoon staring in a 109 run partnership for the fourth wicket alongside Luke Doneathy (36) in 86 balls.

Doneathy fell for 36 to Hooper, with Killeen, McAlindon and Salisbury also departing cheaply.

Tom Mackintosh eventually fell leg before for 143 with 9 fours for the right-hander in a 302 ball innings, as Durham declared on 340/9 setting Kent 367 runs to win.

With 19 overs renaming in the day, Jack Campbell struck in the first over when Mackintosh caught the Kent opener Harry Finch for 4.

Campbell claimed his 7th of the match when Doneathy caught Sam Smith for 11, Salisbury striking 12 balls later to dismiss Burgess when Doneathy picked up another catch. Shortly followed by Kent captain Grant Stewart heading back to the pavilion, Salisbury trapping him lbw for 0.

Durham struck late in the day as Mitchell Killeen bowled Marcus O’Riordan for 11, as the home side closed day 3 on 60/5 with Durham needing 5 wickets to win on the final day at Beckenham.

Day 2 

Durham 66/1 (CT Steel 47, TSS Mackintosh 13) lead Kent 144ao by 92 runs 

Only 27.2 overs we possible at Beckenham for Day 2 of Durham’s 2XI Championship fixture against Kent. 

Following persistent rain throughout the morning and afternoon session play got underway at 25 to 4 on Day 2 with 40 overs remaining, but rain put a stop to the day with 11.5 overs left.

It took Durham only 11 balls to pick up their first wicket, when Campbell grabbed his fifth to bag a five wicket haul (5/20), when Samuel Ellis was caught behind by Stuart Poynter for 5, reducing Kent to 129/9. Kent failing to add to their overnight score.

Bailey Wightman stuck around with 2 from 61 balls but Sighn was caught by Cameron Steel as Salisbury picked up his second wicket to finish with 2/68 from 15.1 overs.

Jack Campbell rounded off figures of 5/20 from 16 overs, as Kent were bowled out for 144 in 53.1 overs, Durham leading by 26 runs.

Durham lost Harry Crawshaw third ball of their second innings for 0 as Grant Stewart stuck, but a 65 run partnership for the second wicket from Cameron Steel (47) in 53 balls and Tom Mackintosh (13) in 58 balls led Durham to 66/1 at the close leading by 92 with 9 wickets remaining.

Jack Campbell claimed four wickets for 18 runs , as 18 wickets fell on Day 1 at Beckenham in Durham’s 2XI Championship match against Kent.

Durham won the toss and elected to bat, but soon found themselves two down inside six overs, as Singh claimed two wickets in his opening spell.

Jonathan Bushnell and Jack Burnham added 60 for third wicket before Bushnell was caught for 22.

Jack Burnham top scored with 52 from 92 balls with 7 fours and 1 six but fell shortly after reaching his half century.

Luke Doneathy scored 28 but four wickets from Singh and 3 from Bailey Wightman saw Durham bowled out for 170 in 39.1 overs.

Matt Salisbury was right in the action from the first over as Harry Finch was caught for 4 by Bradley Currie. Currie was the next to strike when Sam Smith was caught by Doneathy for 4.

A run out from Stanley McAlindon saw Kent reduced to 34/3, before 2 wickets inside 4 balls from Jack Campbell reduced the hosts to 58/5.

Hamidullah Qadri stuck around with 28 from 74 balls but was caught behind by Stuart Poynter for Campbell, the left arm seamer claiming 4/18 from 11 overs.

Salisbury, Currie and Doneathy all claimed one each, as Kent closed day 1 on 129/8 trailing by 41 overs.
