England & Durham all-rounder Ben Stokes has undergone surgery on a knee injury suffered in the First Investec Test against Sri Lanka.
The surgery addressed a cartilage tear in the 24-year-old’s left knee and was undertaken this afternoon.
Full details on the length of his absence and rehabilitation will be confirmed in due course.
There is more positive news for fellow absentee Mark Wood.
The fast bowler has responded well to a second round of ankle surgery and is progressing well.
He will begin a return to a bowling programme by the end of this week, although a timescale towards a full return to fitness is not yet known.
