Ian Blackwell named Player of the Year

The award, whose winner is nominated by the Members of Durham CCC, was presented to Blackwell by Head Coach Geoff Cook for his all round contribution to the first eleven in his first season at the club, which saw him take the highest number of first class wickets in a season by a spinner for Durham and score 800 runs in the Championship.

After scoring a record 1600 Championship runs in 2009, including two double hundreds, Michael Di Venuto picked up two awards at the ceremony, Premium People Batsman of the Year and Players’ Player of the Year, which was supported by Eaga.

Stephen Harmison was named Northumbrian Water Bowler of the Year for the second time in as many years having taken over fifty Championship wickets this season, as well as passing the 400 first class wicket mark in his Durham career. 

Wicket keeper Phil Mustard picked up the award for the Muckle LLP Fielder of the Year having performed consistently behind the stumps with some outstanding catches securing the highest number of Championship dismissals on the county circuit this season.

The Tolent Construction Second XI Player of the Year award went to Sunderland born Scott Borthwick for his consistent performances and transition into the first team, having made his first class debut towards the end of the season.

Academy product Ben Stokes was named Ebac Young Player of the Year for his consistency throughout the season, bridging across the Academy, Second XI and First XI and for his selection for the England Under 19’s tour this winter. 

The Esh Group Community Player of the Year award was won by Neil Killeen.

Maurice Lacriox handed over a watch to the Player of the Series for each of the competitions, which were awarded to Michael Di Venuto (LV= County Championship), Ian Blackwell (Friends Provident Trophy), Mitchell Claydon (Twenty20 Cup) and Phil Mustard (NatWest Pro40)
