Durham Second XI 407/8dec & 241/5dec drew v Somerset 329 & 176/4
Haydon Mustard stars with the bat as Durham Second XI round off the 2026 season with a draw against Somerset at Gateshead Fell Cricket Club.
After being put in by the visitors, Mustard led the way with 100 at the top of the order – scoring 12 fours and one six in his 112-ball knock.
Alan Walker’s side enjoyed healthy partnerships throughout the top order with Durham on 202 when the wicket-keeper batter became the fourth player to depart.
Ben Raine backed up Mustard’s efforts with an enterprising 97 coming from 76 balls, striking three maximums alongside 12 fours.
Daniel Hogg (47) and Duanne Olivier (48*) both added valuable lower-order batting contributions helping the hosts reach 407/8 before declaring after some afternoon rainfall on day two.
Olivier then set the standard with the ball taking four wickets as only 13 further overs could be bowled on day two, reducing Somerset to 31/4.
Will Tripcony and Sam Price (47) shared 142 for the visitors as they steadied their response.
Tripcony top scored with 97 while Oscar Coleman was also dismissed in the nineties – on 94 – helping Somerset avoid the follow-on.
Jonathan Bushnell picked up three wickets while there was a scalp apiece for Ethan Hill, Teddy Minto and Jim Twiddy as the Wyverns made 329.
Mustard impressed with the bat again – scoring 54 from 56 – as Durham upped the ante to set Somerset a final day target.
Three Durham batters passed fifty, with half-centuries also coming for Twiddy (56*) and Thomas Briggs as Walker’s side added 241/5 in 51 overs.
Bushnell and Teddy Minto claimed two wickets each but Tom Kohler-Cadmore (54*) and Will Smeed (64) saw Somerset hold firm to share the points.
