Geoff Cook: It was a sterling effort

Head Coach Geoff Cook gives us his thoughts on the final day’s play, “The surface dictated that it was always going to be difficult to get victory out of the last day’s cricket, it was a sterling effort by the players to give us a sniff of victory.

“Sussex bowled well , we were hoping to get a few more runs by lunch, but the two seam bowlers swung the ball around for the first 70 minutes, what we didn’t want to do was lose too many wickets and put ourselves under pressure.

“You have to be realistic, for each of the three games we’ve been in with a chance of victory going into the final sessions but the surfaces have been really true and that reflects on the performance of our batsmen and already this season we’ve had five hundreds, three scores of ninety by other players and getting victories on those tough surfaces takes a little bit of luck.  In all of the games the effort to get us to a winning position has been wonderful.

“There are things we can do a lot better, we can bowl more consistently, we can turn average scores into big scores but hopefully those things we can start to correct when we resume four day cricket in a few weeks.”
