Foxes too strong for Dynamos

Stand in skipper Mark Stoneman won the toss and sent the home side in on a warm and summery night in Leicester.

After a quickfire few overs from the Foxes it wasn’t long until the Dynamos got their first wicket with paceman Chris Rushworth getting the wicket of Cobb in the 4th over with Stoneman taking the catch.

Cobb’s fellow opener Greg Smith proved tougher to crack and he and number three, Australian Joe Burns took it upon themselves to take to the Dynamos bowlers.

The pair put on a 81-run stand before spinner Scott Borthwick got the wicket of Smith but not before he smashed 67 from 45 in an innings including 11 fours and a six.

Durham were then able to snare a few wickets with Pringle getting Al Hasan for just 1 in the next over and Borthwick claiming the wicket of Boyce lbw three overs later for 9.

Chris Rushworth claimed his second wicket in the 17th over getting the wicket of Thaker for 6 but number three Burns remained at the crease for the home-side.

He continued to torment the Dynamos attack with the Australian smashing his way to 81no from 52 balls (6 fours and 4 sixes) to leave the Foxes 176-5 off their 20 overs.

The Durham reply started shakily with opener Mark Stoneman going for 3 in the third over and number three Borthwick going for the same score the next over.

The ever reliable Phil Mustard and number four Will Smith then got going at the crease until a mix-up left Smith sacraficing his place at the crease for 12 leaving Durham 51-3.

Mustard continued to put the runs on the board and he combined with big hitter Ben Stokes with the pair increasing the run rate and finding all parts of the ground to put Durham in a winnable position at 130-4 with 5 overs to play.

However when Stokes (35 from 26) skied one and it fell short into the hands of Boyce on the rope it sparked a middle order and game changing collapse.

The next ball Mustard played the same shot as Stokes did and was dismissed for 69 from 56, leaving Ireland on a hat-trick.

Next man in Richardson survived the hat-trick ball but was run out in bizarre fashion the next over as he lost his concentration as Thaker appealed for lbw but somehow managed to kick the ball onto the stumps to run him out at the same time.

Pringle then came and went the next ball, trapped lbw by Thaker leaving Durham losing 4 wickets with their tally still 130.

When Muchall departed the following over for 4 the game appeared gone for the Dynamos who had been in a good position just 3 overs prior.

Returning from injury Gareth Breese ensured he was going to leave nothing on the pitch and showed some big hitting to give some hope in the final overs as he smashed 29 from 16 but needing 12 from the final two balls Breese was clean bowled trying to go long and the Foxes got their first win of the t20 season.

Durham now have less than 24 hours to regroup with the side playing at home against Nottinghamshire at 2.40pm on Saturday.
