Dynamos claim win over Saltires

The Dynamos lost captain Phil Mustard just before rain stopped play when he was caught behind off Matthew Parker’s tenth delivery of the day, leaving the hosts 12-1.  Ben Harmison added 12 before he fell to the same fate and Ben Stokes became Parker’s third victim when he was caught behind for two.  Durham were 38-3 when Stoneman was joined by Gordon Muchall.

A bowling change for the 12th over saw Gordon Drummond come on to bowl and he struck with his sixth delivery, just as Durham reached the fifty mark, with Mark Stoneman caught behind on 17. The Dynamos were 81-6 after two wickets fell in quick succession, Muchall stumped off Haq for 21 and Blackwell caught by McCallum off Berrington for 15.

Rain caused another brief delay to play with ten over of the Dynamos innings to go.  Play resumed with Kyle Coetzer and Gareth Breese in the middle, guiding the side past the hundred mark in the 28th over.  The pair put on 64 before Breese was caught by Lyons off Goudie for 34 and it was two wickets in two deliveries when Claydon was caught by Drummond first ball, leaving Durham 145-8.

Kyle Coetzer, who had Stoneman on as a runner after being struck in the lower back with the ball, was out with one ball of the innings remaining, caught by Bailey off Berrington for 35.  Chris Rushworth was the last man in but was run out on the last ball as the pair tried to add another run to the Durham total.

With 158 needed for victory the Saltires were six down for just 44 with Chris Rushworth and Ian Blackwell splitting the honours between them.  Just three runs were added between the wickets of Drummond, who was bowled by Ben Harmison for 10, and Goudie, who was caught at point by Harmison off Breese for 2.

With Lockhart having retired hurt in the eighth over, when the ninth wicket fell, Haq caught and bowled by Breese for 28, the Saltires were all out for just 94, Durham winning by 63 runs (D/L).
