Durham’s Royal London One-Day Cup match against the Yorkshire Vikings will be played for the Durham Light Infantry Trophy.
Previously the Lahores Trade Trophy, the sides will compete for the trophy at this Sunday’s fixture at Emirates Riverside.
The trophy was first contested in the 1992 Championship fixture, marking the first time Durham played Yorkshire with full county status.
It has since been played for in T20 cricket, with Durham victorious in 2004 & 2005 before Yorkshire took the honours in 2006.
The trophy originates from an inter-regimental football tournament between the British Army in India, initially presented in 1907.
The 2nd Battalion of the Durham Light Infantry kept the trophy from the 1920s by virtue of winning it so many times, and DLI Trustees offered the cup as a trophy between Durham and Yorkshire in 1992.
It is already a crucial game, televised live on Sky Sports, as Durham chase a top four spot in the One-Day Cup.
And as part of the day two sets of under-11 sides will play in the Gilberts Cup, an eight-a-side soft ball competition, with the winners playing at Lord’s should Durham reach the final.
