Durham v Notts Day One Round Up

After winning the toss and electing to field first against Nottinghamshire at Emirates Durham ICG on day one of their LV= County Championship clash Durham restricted the visitors to just 161.

With the start delayed due to rain, the hour long first session saw the Durham attack bowl economically and effectively with Callum Thorp and Graham Onions claiming the wickets of Neil Edwards (7) and Alex Hales (5) by the lunch break.

Notts lost two early wickets after the interval with Michael Lumb (9) trapped lbw by Ben Stokes and Samit Patel (13) caught behind off Mitchell Claydon leaving them 38-4.

The pairing of James Taylor and Chris Read added 66 before they were dismissed within seven deliveries of one another, handing Stokes and Claydon a second scalp each.

The bowling honours continued to be evenly spread when Onions caught Ben Phillips (17) off his own delivery in the 56th over as Notts fell to 148-7.

Onions claimed two of the final three wickets and Claydon took his tally to three after dismissing Nottinghamshire for 161.

The Durham openers had 22 overs to last before the close of play but lost Michael Di Venuto (11) in the eighth over following an impressive diving catch by Michael Lumb off the bowling of Ben Phillips.

As conditions darkened the hosts lost Will Smith (11) and Mark Stoneman (7) and as the final session came to a close Durham were 55-3 with Dale Benkenstein 6* and Stokes 18*.
