Durham v Kent – ECB Pitch Panel decide no action required

An ECB Pitch Panel comprising Philip Sharp (Pitch Liaison Officer) and David Hughes convened this evening (Thurs 7 August) to consider the pitch used for the LV County Championship match at Riverside played on 6-9 August between Durham and Kent.

After interviewing the match Umpires, the Captain and Coach of both teams and the Durham CCC Head Groundsman, the Pitch Panel decided that no further action needs to be taken.

In response to the ECB Pitch Panel finding Durham CCC would like to issue the following statement:

“Obviously the Club is disappointed by the comments made by Rob Key regarding the pitch for this match.  Both the Club and the groundstaff take pride in preparing good cricket pitches which are fair to both batsmen and bowler and upon which young players can learn. Riverside pitches have consistently been marked throughout this season as being either good or very good and the pitch for this match was marked by the umpires as above average.”
