Durham Second XI secure T20 Finals Day Spot with a 3 wicket victory over Yorkshire at Banks Homes Riverside

Durham Second XI round off a successful T20 North Group campaign with victory by three wickets over Yorkshire at Banks Homes Riverside.

After being put into the field, the Ds started things off perfectly with the ball as George Drissell trapped Finlay Bean lbw first ball. Durham took two further wickets in the powerplay with Yorkshire 32/3.

Yash Vagadia and Harry Duke put on 36 for the White Rose before both were dismissed in quick succession and Drissell made it three wickets in three overs when he had Will Bennison caught in the deep.

Alan Walker’s side continued to take wickets as Sam Conners and Daniel Hogg both struck and a run out on the final ball saw Yorkshire post 117/9 from 20 overs.

Drissell stound out with figures of 3/15 and was supported by 2/24 from Conners with Hogg, Luke Robinson and Callum Gaffney claiming one scalp apiece.

Ben McKinney and George Drissell got Durham’s chase off to a flyer with 31 runs scored in the opening two overs but Charlie Taylor put the brakes on by taking two wickets in two balls; McKinney departing for 18 and Haydon Mustard going first ball.

Wilf La Fontaine-Jackson got Durham to 50 with Drissell alongside but the former became Taylor’s third scalp in the fifth over.

Drissell made 29 before Leo Wilson removed both him and Luke Symington in the ninth over with the hosts 73/5, requiring a further 45.

Mitchell Killeen and Jonathan Bushnell took the hosts to within four runs of victory before Bennison picked up the wickets of Killeen and Gaffney. Bushnell and Conners saw Durham over the line by three wickets with a Second XI T20 Finals Day spot already in the bag.

Durham Second XI will face Northamptonshire on Monday and Tuesday next week before Finals Day takes place on Wednesday 16 July.
