Durham Second XI 285 v Kent Second XI 188 & 71/1
Robbie Bowman top scored with 63 as Durham Second XI remain in a strong position after a rain-hit second day against Kent at South Northumberland.
After a rain-delayed start Durham resumed on 159/4 trailing by 29 and lost Wilf La Fontaine-Jackson early on for 61 before Bowman went on to make his half-century.
Bowman progressed to his 50 in quick fashion scoring 24 off Jas Singh as Durham reached 200 with five wickets in hand.
The young wicketkeeper-batter eventually fell for 63 with eight four and four sixes, after sharing a 52-run partnership with James Minto.
Minto then put on 54 with Sam Conners on his way to 44 from 82 balls, taking Durham to a total of 285 leading by 97.
Jas Singh claimed 4/60 for Kent while there were three wickets for Ethan Rice, two for Eesa Faheem and one for James Trodd.
With rain throughout the afternoon disrupting the Kent reply, the visitors made their way to 71/1 in 15.4 overs to trail by 26 runs by the time further rain brought a premature end to the day.
Will Harby made 41 from 43 balls for Kent before being caught in the deep off George Drissell.
Durham Second XI enjoyed a successful day with the ball as they returned to action in the 2XI Championship against Kent at South Northumberland.
After winning the toss and opting to bowl Alan Walker’s side enjoyed a strong start to the four-day match, dismissing the visitors in just 45.5 overs.
Daniel Hogg was the pick of the bowlers for Durham claiming figures of 3/18 in seven overs while James Minto, Luke Robinson and Shafiqullah Ghafari all chipped in with two wickets each to bowl Kent out for 188.
Ollie Morgan offered the only real resistance for Kent as he made 75 from 74 balls with 12 fours and a pair of sixes.
The Ds then went on to make significant inroads in Kent’s total, closing on 159/4 just 29 runs behind with six wickets in hand.
Wilf La Fontaine-Jackson scored an unbeaten half-century featuring 5 fours and one six as he closed unbeaten on 55 from 139 balls, sharing partnership with George Drissell (27) and Haydon Mustard (28).
