Durham return to One Day Cup action with 15 in contention to take on Lancashire Thunder

Durham Women are back in Metro Bank One Day Cup action, taking on Lancashire at Banks Homes Riverside from 10:30am tomorrow.

Dani Hazell has named a squad of 15 as Durham return to 50-over action for the first time since May 19th.

Emily Windsor is set for her Durham List A debut whilst Lizzie Scott could feature for the first time in a Durham shirt.

Durham will look to pick up where they left off in the Vitality Blast after they claimed three wins from their final six games.

Hazell’s side sit in sixth place in the One Day Cup on 14 points with three wins and face a Red Rose side who have picked up six wins so far and stand in second place with 26 points.

Phoebe Turner is the highest wicket taker in the One Day Cup with 17 wickets whilst Hollie Armitage is Durham’s top run scorer with 366 runs in eight innings.

Words from Dani Hazell

It’s been a little bit up and down this season. With a young side, there have been a lot of learnings.

The fact that we’re starting to get recognition with girls in the Hundred and in England A teams, it’s a big bonus for us. But there’s a long way to go.

We didn’t get through in the T20 stuff, but we can still progress in the 50-overs.

We talk about trying to get that winning momentum. In the first block of the T20s, we were on the other side of that. It’s been good to get some wins recently, and it’s a chance now to kick on for the rest of the season.

Squad v Lancashire Thunder (24 July)

Hollie Armitage, Suzie Bates, Leah Dobson, Katherine Fraser, Abi Glen, Bess Heath+, Katie Levick, Emma Marlow, Mia Rogers+, Lizzie Scott, Grace Thompson, Phoebe Turner, Sophia Turner, Mady Villiers, Emily Windsor

Opposition Corner

Captain: Ellie Threlkeld

Head Coach: Chris Read

The big questions: Will this be Lancashire’s year? They only progressed beyond the group stages of both 50-over and T20 cricket once combined in five years of regional cricket. But confidence is high that, following a winter’s work and some key signings, they can make their mark immediately on English domestic cricket’s new era.

Player to watch: Lancashire have signed two players from Central Sparks, or Warwickshire as they are now. First up, linchpin top order batter Eve Jones. If the experienced left-hander maintains her recent domestic form, Ellie Threlkeld’s side will have a great chance of success. There won’t be many better players without senior England recognition than Jones.

Young gun: Fast bowler Grace Potts has made the same journey from the West Midlands. She is on the verge of senior England honours having toured South Africa with them before Christmas. A sparkling summer will give the 22-year-old a great chance of debuting under new national coach Charlotte Edwards.

Final thought: Lancashire’s squad on paper is better than previous results have suggested. If their England stars Kate Cross and Sophie Ecclestone play a good number of games, that will be a huge boost. Big impacts from fringe internationals Mahika Gaur, Emma Lamb and Seren Smale will also go a long way. Australian batter Katie Mack and compatriot leg-spinner Alana King will share overseas duties during the first half of 2025.

Match Centre

The Club’s match centre will be in operation for the fixture with live scorecards, statistics & video highlights as they happen. You can watch the game live via Durham’s match centre and the match will also be available on Durham’s YouTube channel. Durham Cricket will have full coverage on social media, with a full match report at the close.
