Day Three

Close, Day Three: Durham 2nd XI (306; C Steel 56; Bushnell 71; Potts 55* & 287/8; Jones 71; Bell 65; Poynter 62) draw with Nottinghamshire 2nd XI (221; Budinger 58; Coughlin 3/54 & 428/7d; Patterson White 149; Todd 83; James 78).

Durham Seconds earned a hard-fought draw against Nottinghamshire in the Second XI Championship in a three-day thriller that went all the way to the wire and could have resulted in all three outcomes.

Following Notts’ declaration on 428/7 (Potts 5-88) the visitors set Durham a target of 343 to win and despite Cameron Steel being dismissed for 6, Michael Jones (71) and Graham Clark (40) got the hosts off to a strong start.

The pair were eventually removed by Jordan Cook, which prompted an impressive stand from Solomon Bell (65) and Stuart Poynter, (62) but when both were dismissed by Liam Patterson-White, Durham opted to play for the draw with just two wickets remaining.

Matthew Potts’ and Josh Coughlin’s industrious efforts with the bat saw Durham earn a draw and finish on 287/8 at stumps.
