Durham looking to make it two in two with MB50 fixture against Glamorgan

Durham will be looking to make it two from two in the Metro Bank one-day cup when they travel to Neath to take on Glamorgan tomorrow, 11am.

Having made history on Friday against Sussex scoring our highest List A score, more of the same will be hoped tomorrow at The Gnoll.

A 13-player squad has been named for the fixture with Luke Robinson replacing Brandon Glover in the 13, the right-arm quick drops out of the squad having had an injection due to suffering with a sore shoulder.  The addition of Robinson is the only change to the squad which travelled to Hove on Friday

With 1 win and 1 loss Durham sit third in group B with 2 points with a strong run rate of 0.9, while Glamorgan also have 1 win and 1 loss but occupy 7th spot with a -0.317 run rate. Group B is tightly contested with Worcestershire and Gloucestershire the two teams with two wins apiece.

Glamorgan were last in action on Sunday chasing down 299 to beat Derbyshire by 7 wickets to claim their first win of the Metro Bank one-day cup.

Words from David Bedingham

When we looked at the wicket against Sussex we thought it would be a very good one and so the decision was made at the toss to bat first. We wanted to get as many runs on the board as possible, to put them under pressure, and that’s how it turned out!
“I had only faced about five to ten balls before I realised it was a really good pitch to bat on and therefore a good opportunity to smash it around, especially after Alex Lees and Graham Clark had given us such a fantastic start.
Thankfully it came off for me but both Alex and Graham also played superbly and it’s good that we’ve been able to bounce back immediately after losing our first match in this competition against Worcestershire on Tuesday. We look forward to Tuesday against Glamorgan and hopefully we can get on a run this competition.

Squad v Glamorgan [8th August]

David Bedingham, Scott Borthwick, Jonathan Bushnell, Graham Clark, Paul Coughlin, George Drissell, Oliver Gibson, Michael Jones, Alex Lees*, Ben McKinney, Migael Pretorius, Luke Robinson, Liam Trevaskis

Opposition Corner

Captain: Kiran Carlson

Overseas player: Colin Ingram (South Africa)

2022 finish: Fourth (Group B)

2022 leading run scorer: Colin Ingram (342)

2022 leading wicket taker: Kiran Carlson (9)

Key player: Colin Ingram – The South African has been the mainstay of Glamorgan’s white-ball batting for a number of seasons now. Ingram was Glamorgan’s top runscorer in the 50-over competition last year and, after averaging 47 in the recently-concluded Vitality Blast, will again be relied upon to pace Glamorgan’s batting.

Young Player to watch: Tom Bevan – Scored an imperious 134 runs off 103 balls in the win over Hampshire last year. More of the same would be very helpful if the ex-Millfield School product is given his chance again. Last season 2nd XI player of the year and John Derrick young Player of the Year.

Final thought: Champions in 2021, they came agonisingly close to reaching the knock-out stages again last season. Skipper Carlson sets high standards in the field, as well as with bat and ball. High energy earned them the title two summers ago. It will be a case of follow the leader.

Match Centre

The Club’s match centre will be in operation for the fixture with live scorecards, statistics & video highlights as they happen. You can watch the game live via Durham’s match centre and Glamorgan Cricket YouTube channel.
