Durham Women will be looking to get their season back on track when they travel to Arundel Castle to take on Hampshire tomorrow at 10:30am.
Danielle Hazell has named a squad of 13 which will travel to West Sussex, with Trudy Johnson the only omission from the 14 which were in contention to take on Somerset.
Durham remain in seventh place in the Metro Bank One Day Cup league table with just one win from four games and take on a Hampshire side who sit in fourth place with 2 wins from four.
Mia Rogers remains in contention to make her Durham List A debut whilst Lauren Filer, Emily Windsor and Lizzie Scott remain unavailable due to injury.
Hampshire fell to a 7-wicket defeat on Sunday against The Blaze at Trent Bridge, having posted 189/7 from their 50 overs with The Blaze chasing the total down inside 37 overs.
Words from Hollie Armitage
It was a close game against Somerset, but when we set our total in a limited-overs game we were happy with that.
Sunday shows how much cricket can ebb and flow, but we’re very disappointed with the result. Fran Wilson showed how to pace an innings well and she’s a tough player to bowl out when she’s in. We thought that we when she was out we might be able to close the gap, but it didn’t go our way.
Katie Levick is a banker and she has been for many years now, but after her spell we couldn’t get over the line. If we’re talking from a batting point of view when you lose four wickets early on you’re always chasing the game.
I’m very happy with the way I’m striking the ball at the moment. I think the main thing for me is to be involved in big partnerships and unfortunately there weren’t many of them today.
It’s my home ground I’ve got to like playing here for the next few years, I’m happy with where I’m at at the moment.
Squad v Hampshire (7 May)
Hollie Armitage*, Suzie Bates, Leah Dobson, Katherine Fraser, Abi Glen, Bess Heath+, Katie Levick, Emma Marlow, Mia Rogers, Grace Thompson, Phoebe Turner, Sophia Turner, Mady Villiers
Opposition Corner
Captain: Georgia Adams
Interim Head Coach: Paul Prichard
The big questions: What is life like without Charlotte Edwards? During her tenure at Utilita Bowl, Edwards won seven trophies and improved countless cricketers. It was little surprise England came calling. Paul Pritchard steps out of her shadow, with an impressive cast including James Hibberd, Beth Morgan and Ian Cox supporting him.
Player to watch: Last season, Vipers didn’t win a match when Charli Knott wasn’t playing. In 50-over cricket, she scored two fifties and a century in her effective style, plus 16 off-spin wickets. She has all the hallmarks of being Australia’s next biggest superstar – and recently earned her first international call-up after a breakout winter in her homeland.
Young gun: Abi Norgrove captained England Under-19s to a World Cup semi-final over the winter. Offers maturity beyond her years and steady middle-order batting. Very difficult to dislodge when she is in full flow.
Final thought: Along with Edwards, senior players have moved on from the south coast. Charlie Dean, Emily Windsor, Danni Wyatt-Hodge, Alice Monaghan and Georgia Elwiss have all left, with little experience replacing them – with the exception of Naomi Dattani. There is plenty of young talent coming through, but can they step up?
