Durham will be looking to bounce back from a disappointing start to their Rothesay County Championship campaign when they take on Yorkshire tomorrow at Banks Homes Riverside.
Ryan Campbell’s side fell to a 1-wicket defeat against Warwickshire last time out with focus now turning to our second home game in the space of a week.
Campbell has named a 13-player squad for the visit of Yorkshire which includes two dropouts and one addition from the 14 who were available to face Warwickshire last week.
David Bedingham suffered a knock on his toe when batting last week and a scan has revealed a fracture. Durham’s Science and Medicine team will continue to assess Bedingham regularly ahead of a return to play.
Mitchell Killeen is added back to the squad and is in contention to make his County Championship debut tomorrow.
A number of the Durham bowlers are currently unavailable and are working on their rehabilitation schedules with Durham’s Science and Medicine team ahead of a return to play
Brydon Carse (toe), Sam Conners (side), Daniel Hogg (achilles), Luke Robinson (groin) Stanley McAlindon (knee), James Minto (personal circumstances).
Durham face a Yorkshire side who made history last week, when they wrapped up a record-breaking 504-run win over Worcestershire inside three days and currently sit sixth in Division One. On the other hand, Durham sit bottom of the table with 11 point from their opening two games.
Words from Ryan Campbell
The Warwickshire game is probably the best game I’ve seen in England since I’ve got here.
People are going to umm and arr about the declaration. There is now umming and arring, we’ve always said we’re going to risk everything to win a game of cricket, so you have to risk losing.
Warwickshire batted really, really well. We kept trucking in on what was very flat wicket but it doesn’t go our way, next time it will.
Ben McKinney will admit that coming into the Warwickshire game that he wasn’t in the best of nick and sometimes it’s a bit old school, but sometimes you’ve just got to survive the first 20 to 30 balls.
What we saw, I agree, a maturing young man who’s starting to understand the game. To be honest I thought he batted really well in the second innings as well when we kept losing wickets and he was trying to maintain his balance and get a partnership going. It’s exciting moments for Durham Cricket, watching our young lads doing really well
I thought first innings we should have been 450, that would’ve probably have been par to be honest.
The facts are that we lost our way there and it took the likes of Ben Raine and Matthew Potts to get us back on track. You score them few extras in the first innings, you probably don’t have to bat as long and save your bacon in the second innings.
