Durham Cricket Riverside Ground goes cashless

Durham Cricket can confirm that the Riverside ground has now become a cashless venue as of 2022.

Following the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic and moving with current times, Durham Cricket have made the decision to stop accepting cash payments across its trading premises.

The move to a cashless venue enables significantly shorter queuing times, improved hygiene for staff and supporters plus a more efficient administration process for the club.

The Club shop, box office and all hospitality areas around the ground will now only accept card and contactless payments. This includes payments made at stadium concourses, kiosks, bars, box office  and the purchase of scorecards and programmes.

All major contactless credit and debit cards will be accepted as well as mobile, Apple Pay and Google Pay.

Durham Cricket, Venue Director, Rob Warren said: “There are many reasons for becoming a cashless ground, not least the health and safety of our valued Members and supporters. The reduction of cash being handed around the venue makes it a lot safer for everyone, helping to minimise that human contact element of cash being handed over.”

“We appreciate the majority of our members and spectators are already using cards to make payment at the Riverside, so the impact of going totally cashless should not be very noticeable and we look forward to this becoming the norm for all visiting the ground.”

In addition to going cashless, Durham Cricket are in the process of updating its ticketing and membership system ahead of the 2022 season. From the new season, tickets purchased from the club website will be available to print from home or download directly to your phone. This will enable a more accessible and smooth process on a match day. Further information on this will follow later this year.
