Durham Cricket Foundation has added a brand-new SEND Coach Development Workshop to its autumn series, a dedicated session designed to help grassroots coaches build confidence and understanding in coaching cricketers with disabilities.
Taking place on Thursday 23 October (6.00pm – 8.30pm) at Belmont School, the workshop will be led by Daryl Smith, Disability Inclusion Officer at Durham Cricket Foundation, who will share his expertise on how to create inclusive, engaging and accessible coaching environments for players with special educational needs and disabilities.
The session will combine practical activities and theory, giving coaches the tools and confidence to deliver sessions that meet the needs of all players, regardless of ability or experience.
Some of the topics covered will include: building awareness and understanding of disability cricket, practical drills, tools and techniques for inclusive coaching, how to adapt sessions to suit players’ individual needs and developing the confidence to coach players with disabilities effectively and sensitively.
Daryl Smith said: “This workshop is about giving coaches the confidence and understanding to make cricket truly accessible for everyone. Whether you’re working with children in schools or players in community settings, the aim is to help coaches feel equipped to support, include and inspire.”
The SEND Coach Development Workshop forms part of Durham Cricket Foundation’s wider strategy, which is focused on supporting grassroots coaches and helping recreational cricket thrive across the region.
It sits alongside other specialist upcoming workshops, including sessions led by Men’s Head Coach Ryan Campbell on Nurturing Talent (Wednesday 8 October), Head of Female Participation Marsha Davies on Coaching Fundamentals (Thursday 9 October), Women’s Head Coach Danielle Hazell on Player Development (Thursday 16 October) and Cole Pearce on Coaching Young Wicket Keepers (Wednesday 22 October).
Together, these workshops form a key part of the Foundation’s mission to take cricket to everyone, ensuring that people of all abilities, backgrounds and ages have the opportunity to enjoy and be part of the game.
