Durham Cricket Continues Partnership with Young Asian Voices for South Asian Celebration at Vitality T20 Blast

Durham Cricket are proud to announce the continuation of its long-standing partnership with Young Asian Voices (YAV) as part of a special South Asian Celebration during the Vitality T20 Blast fixture against Birmingham Bears on Sunday 6 July at Banks Homes Riverside.

This exciting event will celebrate the vibrant South Asian community across the North East and its invaluable contributions to sport, culture, and society. Fans attending the match, which begins at 2.30pm, will enjoy more than just top-class cricket—gates open at 1.30pm for an afternoon packed with cultural festivities and family-friendly entertainment.

Young Asian Voices, a leading multicultural youth and community organisation based in Sunderland, will lead the celebrations with a dynamic programme of live performances, including singers and dancers showcasing South Asian traditions. Attendees can also explore a wide range of food and drink stalls, enjoy interactive activities, and visit the Everyone Active Family Zone, making it a memorable experience for all ages.

YAV has been serving the local community for over two decades, offering inclusive opportunities for young people and adults through sports, education, volunteering, and personal development. Their partnership with Durham Cricket has flourished through shared initiatives, particularly around cricket engagement and community outreach via the Durham Cricket Foundation.

David Jackson, Marketing Director at Durham Cricket, expressed his enthusiasm for the ongoing collaboration:

“We are delighted to continue our partnership with Young Asian Voices. They work closely with our Foundation throughout the year and it’s great to celebrate that work and the South Asian Community in the North East at a huge T20 Blast game.”

Kumareswaradas Ramanathas (Ram), Executive Manager of Young Asian Voices, also shared his thoughts:

“We are pleased to continue our ties with the club. We deliver a lot of cricket-based programmes and there is a lot of interest in the sport amongst the communities we work with. Durham Cricket is an inclusive environment and we are delighted to work in partnership with them. It’s a partnership that has huge benefits to both organisations and hopefully this game will also raise some awareness of the work we do together. We are all looking forward to a fun afternoon at the Cricket.”

The event is a major highlight of Durham’s 2025 summer schedule and promises to blend thrilling sport with vibrant culture, offering a unique matchday experience that reflects the diversity of cricket’s fanbase.
